MIDDLESEX FA UNDER 16 TEAM MANAGEMENT FACE DIFFICULT TASK

Middlesex FA held the second (and final) open trial, on Saturday last 21st Sep at Heston Centre, to select players for the forthcoming season’s Under 16 representative team.

Altogether 55 boys presented themselves for a first viewing. Team Manager, Darrel Gyngell had invited back the 20 attendees at the first trial, held 3 weeks previously, so he and his coaching staff had in excess of 70 players to run the rule over on Saturday. To do this, after an initial assessment, they formed 4 squads and using 2 pitches, played 6x20 minute matches. The photographs accompanying this report, taken by Chris Benn, successfully capture the size and vibrancy of the event and also the enthusiasm displayed by the participants.

A further selection will now be made to form 2 squads for a full scale (A v B) trial match on Wednesday, 2nd Oct (7pm ko) at Rectory Park.

The first under 16’s match is scheduled for the following Wednesday, 9th Oct, away to Berks and Bucks, for the Cyril Butler Trophy. The South East Counties Youth Championship season gets underway, with a home match against the Amateur Football Alliance on Sunday, 24^th Nov (1 pm ko).

The obligatory Child Safeguarding Procedures were initiated during the registration prior to the trial matches, with each boy being given a consent form, for signature by a parent or guardian, together with the explanatory literature. This must be returned to Middlesex FA, fully completed and signed, before the boy can play for the County.
