FA Referee Course
BECOMING AN FA MATCH OFFICIAL
Everyone that wishes to become a match official (referee) has to start by completing the FA Referee Course at their local County FA.
This will include all those match officials that are currently operating in the semi-professional and professional game along with our international officials.
We have outlined below the details and steps that you need to take in order to join one of our upcoming referee courses.
STEP 1 - Create a FAN Number / Check you already have one
Every individual within football has to have a FAN number that will follow them throughout their time in football and all their learning, development and personal details will be attached to this. If you currently play football or have played in the past, you will already have one. If you are not sure of your FAN number you can use the link below to find yours.
It may be the case that you have one, however are under the age of 18 and your unable to attach your email to the FAN account. If you are having trouble with this, please use the link below to contact us.
Once this has been completed, you should be able to visit My Account and login to your FAN account.

STEP 2 - Complete your Safeguarding Training
Every individual that would like to complete the FA Referee Course, must complete online safeguarding training to ensure that they are aware of the basic understandings of safeguarding children and adults at risk and also be aware of how to report concerns should they have any.
The individual taking the referee course must log into their FAN account to complete the course and should not do it on another individuals FAN account.

STEP 3 - Complete your Laws of the Game Training
Every individual that would like to complete the FA Referee Course, must complete online Laws of the Game training online in advance of booking and attending one of our face to face referee courses. This can take a couple of hours and individuals can pause half way through and come back to it after should they wish too.
The individual taking the referee course must log into their FAN account to complete the course and should not do it on another individuals FAN account.

STEP 4 - Complete the expression of interest form
Once you have completed the above 3 steps, you will be able to express your interest in one of our upcoming referee courses here at Middlesex FA. Please use the link below to complete the form. Upon completion, Middlesex FA will review the application and if spaces are available will make you aware of these.
Please note that any applications that show that Steps 1-3 have not been completed will be rejected.

STEP 5 - Complete the Face to Face Referee Course
The Face to Face Referee Course is split across two days and 11 hours of learning. This must be attended and completed in full in order to progress to the following step. Individuals that are unable to attend both days of the course should not book onto that course.
STEP 6 - Referee in your qualifying fixtures
Upon completing your face to face course, you will need to referee in at least five fixtures in order to complete your referee course.
Upon completing the five games and reporting this to the County FA via referee@middlesexfa.com you will then be issued with a certificate of completion detailing the date you completed the FA Referee Course.

You must be 14 or older at the time of booking onto the course. There is no maximum age.
Yes, even if you are still involved with playing the game you will have the opportunity to become a referee.
You will be required to enter your FA Number (FAN) and password to book onto a course or create a FAN and password when you go to book onto a referee course if you don’t have one already

All Courses will be conducted in English and therefore candidates are required to be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing).
If you suffer from a condition that you believe may affect your involvement on a course on either the practical or theoretical elements, please notify us immediately of any support you may require and we will make every effort to ensure that you are supported throughout the course of delivery and given every opportunity to successfully attain the relevant course award.
