JOHN TAYLOR RIP

Remembering our Chair, Mr John Taylor.

It is with profound sorrow that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed chairman, Mr John Taylor, at the age of 60. After a brief illness, John passed yesterday, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family.

John’s contributions to the world of football were immense and far-reaching. Over the course of 34 years, he dedicated himself tirelessly to the Middlesex Football Association. After filling administrative roles in various Middlesex Leagues, he began his journey with us in 1991 as the Competitions Committee Secretary and later took on the role of Saturday and Sunday Competitions Director. In 1994, he joined the Council of Middlesex, contributing his wisdom and passion to numerous committees. In 1998, John laid the foundation for the Association’s inaugural Women’s Football Committee, serving as its first Chair—a role that showcased his visionary commitment to the sport and he was heavily involved with Barnet Ladies and their transition to London Bees.

In 2011, John was elected as Chair of Council and the Board, leading us with both heart and professionalism. Under his guidance, we moved to Rectory Park and launched the new Grassroots Football Strategy across the County, initiatives that will forever mark his legacy. In recent years, he has made a substantial contribution to The FA Council, The FA National Game Board and The FA Women’s Board.

Beyond his administrative achievements, John was a Class One Referee, known for his fairness and integrity, and officiated at four County Cup Finals.

John’s leadership was not just about strategy and governance—it was about being a friend, a mentor, and a confidant to everyone involved in Middlesex football. CEO Kayleigh Saunders reflected on his passing, saying, “John will be greatly missed by all of us. His passion for Middlesex football and his professional business acumen made him the perfect chairman for our organisation. To so many volunteers, coaches, players, and referees, he was not only a leader but also a friend, always available to lend support and champion the ethos of football for all.”

John is survived by his loving wife, Gill, and their daughter and grandchildren. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to football and our community have left an indelible mark on all of us. Today, as we remember him, we send our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched.

We ask that all matches played across Middlesex this weekend (29th / 30th March), observe a minutes silence before kick off as a mark of respect.

Rest in peace, John. Your legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.
