BEDFONT SPORTS REACH MIDDLESEX SENIOR YOUTH CUP FINAL
The first semi-final of the Middlesex Senior Youth Cup was played last Monday evening 4th April, between the U18 teams of CB Hounslow United and Bedfont Sports. The match took place on the latter club’s splendid 3G pitch, which is CB U18 side’s usual home venue. Our roving team of Chris Benn (photographer) and Jim Taylor (reporter) covered the game.
After a scoreless first half, Bedfont Sports won a skilfully contested and entertaining match by 4 goals to 1. Although Bedfont deserved their win, CB Hounslow United performed well and fully extended them, especially in the first half. The final score did not accurately reflect CB’s spirited performance against a very good Bedfont side.
Bedfont Sports had a good chance to take the lead in the 5th minute. Owen Cartwright was fouled by Taisie Okawa-Marles, as he entered the penalty area. He took the kick himself but hit a tame shot, which goalkeeper, Ahmad Kamjey easily gathered.
CB threatened briefly and a free kick taken from wide on the right was cleared. Then the Eagles mounted a series of attacks. Alfie Lal shot past the far post. Amara Chukwanta’s low shot was saved by Ahmad. Owen Cartwright was fouled to the right of the penalty box. Alfie took the free kick and the ensuing action saw the keeper save from Freddie Solly. Michael Goddard headed a cross home but the goal was disallowed for offside. Then, Freddie burst through the middle but was thwarted by the advancing Ahmad.
Daniel Boydon went on an incisive run for CB and set up Sam Healey, whose shot struck the crossbar. The ball went out for a corner, taken by Sam, whose kick was headed off of the goal-line by a defender.
Owen Cartwright’s run released Alfie Lal but his shot was blocked. Then Freddie Solly’s low cross was competently dealt with by Ahmad Kamjey.
CB’s Taisei Okawa-Marles took the ball full in his face from close range and after receiving treatment had to leave the field. He was eventually able to return.
Ahmad Kamjey made a good double save but was hurt saving the second shot from Amara Chukwunta and needed treatment.
In the last action of the first half, Owen Cartwright worked his way into the CB box. His shot was blocked and Freddie Solly hit the rebound wide.
Half time score: CB Hounslow United 0 Bedfont Sports 0
Bedfont Sports took the lead 3 minutes into the second half. A free kick, taken by Alfie Lal from around 25 yards, went straight through the unfortunate goalkeeper’s hands into the net.
Ahmed Kamjey saved from Kadmiel Anderson at the expense of a corner in the 56th minute but again went down injured after doing so. After lengthy treatment, Ahmad handed over his keeper’s jersey to Jaiden Brookmam but then there was a change of mind and he continued in goal.
Amara Chukwunta had a scoring chance for Bedfont but he didn’t connect cleanly and his shot was off target. Then Michael Goddard received the ball from a free kick by Alfie Lal and also shot wide.
CB equalised in the 68th minute, through Dan Sines, after good approach work from Daniel Boydon.
5 minutes later Michael Goddard slipped the ball home to restore Bedfont Sports’ advantage.
Alfie Lal set up Kadmiel Anderson, whose shot was blocked.
After 78 minutes, the courageous Ahmad Kamjey finally handed the keeper’s jersey and gloves over to Jaiden Brookman.
In the 82nd minute, CB’s Baba Sarr tangled with Michael Goddard in the penalty area. Owen Cartwright made no mistake with the spot kick.
Alfie Lal put Michael Goddard through but stand-in keeper, Jaiden Brookman saved with his feet. However, in the 5th of the 7+ minutes added time, Alfie netted from close range.
