Premier Cup Programme Continues
Chris Benn continued his coverage of Middlesex Cup matches with a visit to Bedfont Sports FC’s fine facilities for the Premier Cup quarter final between British Airways and FC Deportivo Galicia.
A very entertaining and competitive match ensued. Deportivo were 2 goals up in the first 18 minutes, through close range strikes by Anton Fernandez. Paul Murphy pulled a goal back for BA, in the 24th minute, with a spectacular drive into the roof of the net. Brad Scott levelled the scores from Tyler Haynes pass 5 minutes later but despite several near misses, there was no more scoring.
Score at full time: 2-2
Anton Fernandez continued his scoring run by converting the first spot kick for Deportivo. Spencer Maw then stepped up for BA and blazed his kick high and wide. However, a retake was ordered, due to an infringement by the goalkeeper and Spencer successfully converted his second attempt.
The second pair of kicks resulted in Arkaitz Ruis scoring for Deportivo and his keeper, Manuel Lamas saving from BA’s Tyler Haynes.
Then Juan Devia (Deportivo), Paul Murphy (BA) and Matthew Orobio (Deportivo) were all successful before Manuel Lamas saved his BA opposite number, Ben Clargo’s kick to seal the match for Deportivo.
Penalty score: BA 2 Deportivo 4
The results of the other quarter final matches were as follows:
Rayners Lane | 4 | Hillingdon Borough | 0 |
Crickelwood Wanderers | 1 | St Panteleimon | 5 |
